Scientists researching the periods before written historical records have established that the territory of what is now referred to generically as South Africa was one of the most important centres of human evolution. It was inhabited by Australopithecines since at least 2.5 million years ago, and modern human settlement occurred around 125,000 years ago in the Middle Stone Age. The first human habitation is associated with a DNA group originating in a north-western area of southern Africa and which is still prevalent in the indigenous Khoisan (Khoikhoi and San).

We make use of PayFast for secure processing card payments. Like most South African payment processors, they require a 3D Secure code to complete a card transaction.
3D Secure is a security feature where a shopper has to enter a password or a one-time pin (or OTP), sent to their email or mobile device to complete the payment.
Note that this pin or password is provided to you by your bank when you register your card for online purchases. It is usually not the same as your card ATM pin.
Read more about the history of 3D Secure
PayFast explains the process, and also includes links to the banks' registration sites.
Mountain Passes South Africa is a website dedicated to the research, documentation, photographing and filming of the mountain passes of South Africa.
Passes are classified according to provinces and feature a text description, Fact File including GPS data, a fully interactive dual-view map and a narrated YouTube video.
We are as passionate about maps as we are about mountain passes. A good map is a thing of beauty that can transport you into the mists of time or get your sense of adventure churning. It is a place to make discoveries about deserts and seas, mountains and lakes; of roads leading into places you have not been before; a place to pore over holiday destinations or weekend camping trips. A map is your window to the world.
