Beautiful South Africa! Beautiful South Africa! - Photo: Hougaard Malan

Every radio station, newspaper and a dedicated TV channel - it's Oscar in abundance. With all the negativity in the news headlines, we try to keep things on a positive note. The weather is unseasonally pleasant with 28 to 30 degree temperatures in the Western Cape. Add a rash of public holidays and it's a perfect recipe to discover your country. Our trio of passes range from the Mother City and a scenic road through the Schoemans Kloof Pass in Mpumalanga.

1. Rhodes Drive (Cape Town) - An old, narrow, winding road along the eastern flank of the mountain passing Cecilia State Forest and the Kirtsenbosch Botanical Gardens. It's busy with tourists and commuters on any day of the year.

2. Schoemans Kloof - On the tarred R539 between Machadodorp and Nelspruit. It's not the gradients or curves you need to worry about - it's the hippos and crocs! The kloof is the gateway to the Montrose Falls and Sudwala Caves.

3. Suikerbossie (Cape Town) - We have separated Suikerbossie from the other page on Victoria Road in honour of the hundreds of thousands of cyclists who have sweated, cursed and cramped their way up this love/hate pass.

Dont forget to service your car if you're heading off on a trip this Easter.

Master Orientation Map

Master Orientation Map We are as passionate about maps as we are about mountain passes. A good map is a thing of beauty that can transport you into the mists of time or get your sense of adventure churning. It is a place to make discoveries about deserts and seas, mountains and lakes; of roads leading into places you have not been before; a place to pore over holiday destinations or weekend camping trips. A map is your window to the world.
